OKR framework

Objective and Key Results is a framework – a process and software that allows defining and tracking actions based on the company’s most important goals and measurable results. The primary idea is the visibility and the ability to measure individual actions in relation to overriding objectives.

OKR process

The process structure allows unified ways to identify and then track progress on specific topics during the quarter, month, or week in such a way that the whole team involved in the project has easy access to all current statuses of tasks and goals independently, no matter how much their content varies from one another.

The structure

Due to its structure, the most obvious place in the organization where OKR is used are the sales and marketing departments. It is worth noting that implementing such a solution in a company requires a kind of cultural reset. This is because a large part of businesses continue to base their processes on „linear” solutions, where each member goes their own way, and a complete vision of the goals is only found in the managers’ heads.

The superiority of OKR solutions over classical frameworks used for instance in IT project management is that all actions are linked to key results from the beginning, and illustrate the impact of individual tasks on achieving them in a multithreaded way.

From general to detail

Construction of the plan with OKR starts with the organization’s objectives and the key results that enable measuring them, for instance: „100 leads a month”, „$2 million in quarterly revenue”, or „Customer Satisfaction with Software Use.” It then identifies milestones that must be completed to achieve these goals.

It is only in the next stage that a task map specific to each team member is created. It influences the achievement of milestones and consequently the achievement of goals and key results. Usually, assignments are given weekly.

Availlable solutions

There are several different types of solutions on the market, both based on cloud computing and on installed software. The best recognizable products for OKR management include dapulse, Weekdone, BetterWorks and Goals.

At XSolve, we use Weekdone as the best fit for the specificity of our projects. Thanks to that, starting with the most important goals, we design effects and intermediate results and actions that allow reaching them within a certain time. This in turn, allows reaching quarterly and consequently also annual goals.
